The Cosmic Clock Our Ancestors Left Us

 🕉️ SAMVATSARA SERIES — DAY 0

The Cosmic Clock Our Ancestors Left Us

Long before clocks were invented, before calendars were printed, before apps reminded us of dates, our Rishis had already mapped time itself.

Not just days. Not just months.

They mapped entire years to the movement of the cosmos.

And they gave each year a name, a personality, a spiritual forecast.

This is the Samvatsara.

What is a Samvatsara?

Samvatsara (संवत्सर) is a Sanskrit word found in the Rigveda itself, one of the oldest words for "year" in all of human history.

But it is not the year we know from the Gregorian calendar, which follows the Sun.

A Samvatsara follows Brihaspati, the planet Jupiter, the Guru of the Gods.

Jupiter takes approximately 12 years to travel through all 12 Rashis of the zodiac. Saturn takes approximately 30 years. Our Rishis asked a profound question, when do these two great cosmic giants return to the exact same position in the sky, together?

The answer is every 60 years.

So our Rishis named each of these 60 years, each carrying its own energy, its own blessings, its own lessons. This 60-year wheel is called the Samvatsara Chakra, and it has been turning, unbroken, for thousands of years.

The Beautiful Legend

There is a story that once, to teach the great Rishi Narada the lesson of Maya, Lord Vishnu created an illusion in which Narada gave birth to 60 sons, one in each year.

When the illusion lifted, Vishnu blessed Narada and said, your 60 sons shall live forever. Each shall preside over the world for one year at a time, in an endless cycle.

And so the 60 Samvatsaras were named after those sons. Each year carries the personality of that child. Each year has a soul.

Who Presides Over These 60 Years?

The 60 Samvatsaras are divided into three groups of 20, each presided over by one of the three pillars of creation:

The first 20, Prabhava to Vyaya belong to Lord Brahma, the Creator. Years of Rajas, action, expansion, building.

The next 20, Sarvajit to Parabhava, belong to Lord Vishnu, the Preserver. Years of Sattva, balance, dharma, harmony.

The final 20, Plavanga to Akshaya, belong to Lord Shiva, the Transformer. Years of deep tapas, dissolution, purification, burning of what is false.

We are currently deep in the final 20.

We are in Shiva's chapter of time.

The Samvatsaras of Our Era  📌 Save This

2024–25 — Krodhi

Intensity, anger in the collective, inner fire, purification through conflict.

 2025–26 — Vishvavasu(ending March 19, 2026)

Universal generosity, artistic grace, abundance, honour. The world breathes for a moment.

2026–27 — Parabhava / Roudra(begins March 19, 2026)

Fierce correction. Dissolution of falsehood. Shiva's direct gaze upon the world.

(North Indian tradition calls it Roudra | South Indian Ugadi tradition calls it Parabhava — same energy, same beginning)

2027–28 — Plavanga

Restlessness, erratic movement, flooding energy. The need for stillness and grounding.

2028–29 — Keelaka

Obstacles and delays. Yet tremendous spiritual merit for those who persist with devotion.

2029–30 — Saumya

Gentleness begins to return. Peace, Sattvic energy, the first whisper of relief.

2030–31 — Sadharan

Equilibrium, recalibration, the settling of storms. A breath.

2031–32 — Virodhikrita

Opposition rises again. Testing of character. The final crucible.

2032–33 — Paridhavi

The darkness peaks. Harshness in the world. But wisdom blooms for the devoted.

2033–34 — Pramadicha

Carelessness brings dangers. Vigilance, prayer, and surrender are the shield.

2034–35 — Ananda

Joy returns. Devotion is rewarded. Peace. Abundance. Ananda - pure bliss.

Look at this arc, dear ones.

From 2026 to 2033, the world passes through a Shiva-shaped crucible. Not as punishment. But as purification.

Every goldsmith knows, gold does not become pure without fire.

And after every long night in Shiva's time, Ananda awaits.

This is not a forecast of doom. This is a map. So you can walk these years with open eyes, steady breath, and Mahadev's name on your lips.

🪔 Sacred Practice for the New Samvatsara

As we stand at the threshold of a new cosmic year, here are two sacred anchors to carry with you:

1. The Brihaspati Mantra — for wisdom, clarity and Jupiter's grace

Since every Samvatsara is governed by Jupiter's movement, beginning the year by honouring Brihaspati aligns you with the cosmic current itself.

देवानां च ऋषीणां च गुरुं काञ्चनसन्निभम्।

बुद्धिभूतं त्रिलोकेशं तं नमामि बृहस्पतिम्॥

Devanam cha Rishinam cha Gurum Kanchana-Sannibham,

Buddhibhutam Trilokesham Tam Namami Brihaspatim.

Meaning: I bow to Brihaspati, golden-hued teacher of the gods and sages, the embodiment of wisdom, lord of the three worlds.

Chant this 11 or 108 times every Thursday morning. Offer yellow flowers, light a ghee diya, and wear something yellow if possible. Let Guru's light enter the new year with you.

2. The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra  for protection through Shiva's time

Since we are now deep in the Shiva-governed Samvatsaras, this is the most powerful mantra you can hold close. It is not a mantra of fear , it is the mantra that Shiva himself gave to young Markandeya when death itself came to his door. And Markandeya lived.

ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्।

उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात्॥

Om Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushti-Vardhanam,

Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat.

Chant this 11 times every morning, at dawn if possible, facing East. On difficult days, chant 108 times with a Rudraksha mala in hand.

This mantra is your shield through every difficult Samvatsara ahead.

A Short Morning Meditation — 5 Minutes

Begin your day this way, every day, as the new Samvatsara approaches:

Sit quietly. Close your eyes. Spine straight, shoulders soft.

Take three slow, deep breaths.

On each inhale, silently say: "Shiva is with me."

On each exhale, silently say: "I release what is not mine to carry."

Do this for one minute.

Then chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, even just 3 times,  slowly, feeling each syllable vibrate in your chest.

Then sit in silence for two minutes.

Place one hand on your heart and simply feel, gratitude. For this breath. For this life. For the ancient Rishis who mapped the stars so we would never walk through time alone.

Open your eyes.

You are ready for the day.

The cosmic clock has always been ticking.

Our Rishis just taught us how to read it, and more importantly, how to walk with grace through every season it brings.

🙏 Har Har Mahadev
